Can I create binders in Cleardox?

When you are preparing documents for your court cases in Cleardox, it can often be necessary to split the appendices into separate binders. You can learn how to do this in this article.

A systematic division of exhibits makes it easier to work with your case – both digitally and physically. Courts are increasingly setting requirements for digital submissions and file sizes. By splitting your exhibits into binders, you maintain a logical structure and avoid technical issues during upload.

Preparing Legal Binders in Cleardox - Two Options

  1. When preparing binders for physical submission to the court, there is often a page limit.
This usually requires time-consuming manual adjustments – for example, making sure that the number of pages does not exceed the limit set by the court.

In ClearDox, you have two ways to create binders:

    • Manual split – You can manually add binders and choose exactly which exhibits to include in each one.

    • Automatic split – You can set a maximum page limit (for example, 500 pages), and ClearDox will automatically divide the material into multiple binders. The system groups the exhibits as closely as possible to the selected page count – without splitting a single exhibit across binders or exceeding the set limit.

Why split exhibits into binders

A clear and systematic binder structure makes it easier to work with the case – both internally and in court.

It also supports the preparation and hearing stages: when exhibits are placed in separate binders in a clear order, it becomes much easier to refer precisely – for example, “Binder 3, Exhibit 12” – and to ensure that all parties are working from the same material.

Exhibits must be presented in the format required by the court, and all pleadings and documents must be digitally processable. Courts therefore expect the parties to submit exhibits in an organized, logical and technically correct format.

In short, a well-structured binder setup provides clarity, efficiency and ensures that your material can be used directly in court - without reformatting, merging or the risk of rejection.

Downloading binders

When you download your binders, you can choose to receive a separate PDF for each one.
You can also download two versions - one in digital layout and one in book layout - so your material is ready for presentation both on screen and in print.
