Manual Redaction of Text Content
There are times when sensitive content, such as trade secrets, is not detected by Cleardox and must be manually redacted. This can include various forms of content, such as text passages, tables, images, or even entire pages.

1. By Highlighting Text Content
Here’s how you do it:
- Identify the text passage you need to anonymize.
- Highlight the text with your cursor.
- Select an appropriate category, such as "confidential."
If the same text appears multiple times in the document, Cleardox will find and automatically anonymize it. If only the current passage should be anonymized, uncheck the checkbox as shown in the image below.
2. By Drawing and Inserting a Box
Sometimes, highlighting text is not practical, such as when the text is scattered across a page in a table or figure, or when dealing with a flat PDF image. In these cases, it might be easier to anonymize by inserting an anonymization box.
- Click the icon in the toolbar, as shown in the image below.
- Highlight the area to be anonymized.
- Choose the category that best fits the situation.
Anonymizing Images
Cleardox allows you to anonymize all or part of an image. You can also anonymize the same image across multiple pages if it appears in the same place.
To anonymize images:
- Click the icon in the toolbar, as shown in the image above.
- Place the box over the area you want to anonymize.
- Optionally, click "Anonymize same area on all pages." This is useful for anonymizing a logo, header, or footer. Simply check the box as shown in the figure above.
Anonymizing Whole Pages
When an entire page needs to be anonymized, using the "Anonymize Whole Page" function is more efficient than drawing a box.
To anonymize a whole page:
- Select the icon as shown in the image below.
- Click on the relevant page.
- Choose an appropriate category.
The entire page will now be anonymized upon download.
