How do I customize my Table of Contents in Cleardox?

Customize the Table of Contents in Cleardox to structure, format, and automate your binder overview. You can fully customise the layout, style, and content - and the table updates automatically as your documents change.

Styling the table of contents

In Cleardox, you can customise and style your table of contents to match your case and any specific requirements set by the court or your organisation.
The feature offers full flexibility in both structure and appearance - and updates automatically as your documents change. In this article, we will go over how to customize the table of contens.

Dynamic table of contents

The table of contents updates automatically when you add, delete, or move documents within a binder.
You never need to manually adjust numbering, page references, or order - Cleardox keeps everything up to date.

Structure and sections

You can divide the table of contents into sections to create a clear and logical structure, for example:

  • Correspondence

  • Agreements

  • Other exhibits

You can also add extra rows to include designations or notes referring to exhibits that are intentionally omitted from the binder.

Text styling

Customise the appearance of your table of contents using built-in formatting tools:

  • Choose between three fonts

  • Apply bold, italic, or underline

  • Use different styles across sections to highlight headings or important exhibits

Column customization

Each section in the table of contents can be adjusted individually. You can:

  • Modify column setup (e.g. Date, Exhibit, Description, Page)

  • Remove columns entirely from a section if they’re not relevant

Automatic fields

If a document title includes a date or exhibit number, Cleardox automatically detects and adds it to the table of contents.
This saves time and reduces the risk of manual errors - especially in large binders.

Sorting and layout

You can choose to sort exhibits by date, which is ideal for cases where chronology matters.
It’s also possible to add both a header and a footer so every page in the table of contents follows your preferred layout and presentation style.
